Our Vision for a Better Local Economy
With the difficult economic times that we are all facing, every part of the Welsh economy needs to be firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, local authorities do not have all the powers they need in order to stimulate their local economies. The Labour-run Welsh Government keeps too much of that power for itself and does not have the local expertise or knowledge to help stimulate economic growth. Carmarthenshire Liberal Democrats want to see:
- Help to provide support for small business and investment in the local economy.
- A policy for job creation across every community.
- An increase in apprenticeship opportunities within the Council's workforce.
- Promoting the provision of rural broadband services and 'wifi' hubs in the County's towns and villages.
- Promotion of 'buy local' initiatives.
- Promotion of co-operatives and social enterprises.
- A review of the County Council's farms estate and its policy and practice towards new entrants into local farming.
- A review the Council's procurement policies and function to improve the opportunities for local businesses to be successful in delivering goods and services within the County.
