Commenting on the release of figures from the Wales Audit Office that show the NHS has saved £24 million in staff time by reducing sickness since 2004, Peter Black, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Minister, said: "This achievement by the Welsh NHS should be welcomed. This is a welcome improvement in efficiency."
"However while staff are still so stretched in our hospitals and under stress, high sick levels will remain a problem. Only by the Government improving working conditions will significant further cuts be achieved."
